Managing Battery Power

Managing power, in part by making judicious usage decisions, is a big element of offline usage while homeless because you also will likely be dependent on battery power for large parts of the day or all day on days when the library is closed. So you will need to decide things like if you want to play a certain game for an hour or two or if you would rather do other lower power usage things for several hours (such as read articles and write stuff) to keep you occupied all evening. This is much less of an issue if you are in housing with electricity, but just don't have internet service at home. That doesn't meant it won't ever be an issue at all in housing. If you are in cramped quarters with a short cord, you may still have some problems here. I am currently in housing and I spend many hours a day on a cheap smartphone. Internet Access

Libraries Most libraries offer free Wi-Fi. You typically don't even need a library card to get Wi-Fi access. You do need a library card or guest pass to access their PCs. Sometimes, you can access the Wi-Fi outside the building if you are sitting next to it in certain spots. This is especially useful on days when they are closed. Eateries and Stores Many eateries and stores offer Wi-Fi, such as Starbucks, McDonald's and Walmart. You typically need to purchase something to use their Wi-Fi. Data Plans You can get a data plan with a smart phone fairly inexpensively via services like Tracfone.

Photos, Text and Simple Solutions

I have a cheap laptop and a cheap phone. During the pandemic, while video conferencing was all the rage, I had only two such experiences in part because my laptop is too cheap and doesn't handle that well. I accepted the first invitation as kind of a "throw away" experience to help me work out the bugs for the second meeting that was part of something that actually mattered to me. I found my video lagged badly and I ended up closing EVERYTHING up and rebooting the computer just before the second meeting and that got me less bad results. But it also taught me this isn't a format that works well for me at the moment and not just because my computer equipment is "budget" and just not up to par. I am on a noisy street, have no privacy in my small rental, etc. What has been working well for me here lately is taking photos with my cheap phone and posting them to one of my Reddits.
